In the area of surveillance, the Ploufragan-Plouzané-Niort Laboratory:
- runs the national network for epidemiological observation in poultry farming (RNOEA);
- organises the annual monitoring of Campylobacter antimicrobial resistance in livestock animals. This monitoring plan is carried out under Implementing Decision 2013/652/EU;
- jointly coordinates Résapath, the surveillance network for antimicrobial resistance in pathogenic bacteria of animal origin, together with the Lyon Laboratory;
- contributes to programmed surveillance of avian influenza (annual serological surveillance of avian influenza viruses and study of low pathogenic avian influenza viruses in ducks);
- contributes to Résavip, the network for surveillance of swine influenza viruses, with other partners of the epidemiological surveillance platform for animal health;
- participates in the monitoring of zoonotic bacteria (Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, Yersinia and C. botulinum) through the characterisation of strains from mandatory controls, surveillance and control plans, epidemiological investigations and research projects.
The Ploufragan-Plouzané-Niort Laboratory is also a contributor to two of the three national epidemiological surveillance platforms:
- the epidemiological surveillance platform for animal health (ESA);
- the surveillance platform for food-chain safety (SCA).
Its responsibilities in these platforms include providing cross-cutting support for the laboratory's specific themes, and participating in monitoring and work groups and international health monitoring activities.
