ANSES hosts the IMEKOFOODS international conference on food safety and quality
ANSES, as the French scientific assessment agency for food and nutrition, has offered to host the 7th edition of the IMEKOFOODS conference, which will be held from 25 to 27 October 2023.
The aim is to bring together scientists specialised in food safety and quality, food chemistry and metrology, and nutrition, to review the latest scientific advances and protect consumer health.
According to a 2017 study published in The Lancet, 11 million deaths are attributable to dietary risk factors such as high sodium intakes, diets low in fibre, fruits and vegetables, and high in processed meats and sugary drinks. In addition, the WHO has estimated that more than 20,000 deaths are linked to the presence of four chemicals in food. The globalisation of the food trade, world population growth, climate change, and rapidly changing food systems and lifestyles, are all having an impact on the safety and quality of food and, as a result, on public health.
In order to better understand the impact of food risks on health, scientists, risk assessors, governments and manufacturers need to have access to accurate food data derived from rigorous and reliable metrological measurements.
ANSES assesses the risks associated with the contamination of food by pathogens and toxic substances at all stages of the food chain, from the production of foods of animal or plant origin to the consumer's plate. It participates annually in this conference to present its scientific activities alongside its international counterparts.
